Draft of Proposal for PhD Dissertation:

Competitive Bagpipers in the United States

Preface to the online edition

This is the most recent draft of my proposal formatted for the World Wide Web. Rather than creating a slick interface, I have tried to construct the online version such that it will most resemble the paper version. Any browser can display it, but it will look most like the paper version when viewed with Netscape Navigator version 4 or greater, a little less so with Microsoft Internet Explorer [IE] version 4 or greater and even less so with other browsers. (I will try to make it more IE friendly soon!) Each section contains a navigation bar at the top and bottom with links to the major sections of the proposal. In addition, the longer sections have a linked outline at their beginning. As the proposal is further refined, I will update this online version accordingly.

Technical notes:

  1. When you begin reading the proposal text, you may wish to take a few moments to adjust the width of the browser window. If the window is too wide, the lines may not be a comfortable reading length.
  2. Clicking on a note number in the body text will display the appropriate endnote. To return to the body text, press the browser's "back" button.
  3. Finally, clicking on the purple triangles in the longer sections will display the outline at the top of the document allowing you to more easily navigate to another section.

A note for the technologically curious
